Strawberry Festival 2015

This past Friday Poplar Road Junior Public School held its 51st annual Strawberry Festival. Although the weather didn’t fully cooperate there was lots of fun to be had at this years festival!

Most of the festival's activities were set up inside the school this year, the games were set up in the Library as well as the Gym. Despite the rain though there were still some activities set up outside including the famous Cake Walk as well as my personal favourite, Alley Cats and of course you can’t go to the Strawberry Festival without picking up some Strawberry Tarts! The tarts were being sold inside the room right next to the office for $2 each. The Basket Raffle and Silent Auction were set up in the two Kindergarten rooms, the Reading Basket stood out to me as the best basket.

Although the Festival doesn’t track attendance numbers, Carol Evans-Duffield said over email that “...it was a lot for it to be an indoor event! Our community is amazing that they would come out and support this festival even in the rain.” Although the final total raised is not yet known, the 2014 Festival raised over $15,000 for the school. Carol notes though, “This year there was fewer people in attendance and we probably raised less money, mostly because of the weather.”
