Tragedy on the Tracks.

Yesterday Evening, December 1st, GO Transit's Twitter account for the Lakeshore East Line reported that that the 5:40pm train out of Union had struck a person East of Guildwood Station. The incident occurred near the Level Crossing at Morningside Avenue.

We don't have many details on what took place at this time but we have reached out to Toronto Police at 43 Division to learn more. This post will be updated as soon as we have more details.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.

It has been confirmed that Henok Belete committed suicide on December 1st at the Morningside Train Crossing. Henok, a 37 year-old originally from Ethiopia, had a history of depression and schizophrenia and although he was prescribed medication but didn't like to take it according to the family.

In Ethiopian culture the deceased's community and distant relatives are involved in mourning rituals. This makes funerals very expensive for families abroad. Since Henok's death was so sudden the family is having trouble raising the funds nessisary and have started a GoFundMe campaign to help with the costs. They are looking tor raise $15,000 by the begining of January 2017.
